EARLY CHILDHOOD

DSC_0155.JPG
  • 90% of brain development occurs by age 5.

  • Children from low-income families hear 30 million fewer words than their more affluent peers.

  • By age 5, a child from a low-income home recognizes only 9 letters while their more affluent peers recognize 22.

  • Interactions with children adults care for matter, but adults don't always know exactly what to do. The last thing a parent needs is more pressure! But the concepts - like playing silly games with a baby while folding laundry - encourage them, give them confidence, and even provide ideas to try out with their family. Supporting early learning can be a fun and loving interaction that can be undertaken in the context of everyday life.
