Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library enables United Way Manitowoc County to send a new high-quality, age-appropriate book each month to a child’s home at no cost to the family. If enrolled at birth, a child can receive their own personal library of 60 books. Research has shown that the number of books in a child’s home is significantly linked to reading scores – the more books, the better the score. For this reason, United Way Manitowoc County wants to help more children have access to books in their homes to help with their language and literacy development, giving them the proper tools to be successful in school and later in life.

Who is eligible for free books?

  • Preschool children from birth until their fifth birthday are eligible.

  • Must live in Manitowoc County.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Complete a registration form.

  • Notify United Way Manitowoc County if the child's address changes.

  • Read with your child.

When will my child begin receiving books?

Approximately 8-10 weeks after your registration is approved, books will begin arriving at your home and will continue until:

  • Your child turns five;

  • You move out of Manitowoc County; or

  • You move to another address in Manitowoc County but don't share this change with United Way Manitowoc County
